Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's divorce from the family members, she was brought up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to word associations. Ford's passion for acting started as a child. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she wasn't a good for the school. Ford, instead of applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot on her third attempt, applied and won acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. He was later to play regular roles in the shows Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however at the time she already had made her debut on television in an episode from 1991 of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate was also a regular performer as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of The Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
